A number of children who attend Glenview Methodist Preschool have severe allergies. Within this group are children that have a potentially life threatening allergy to peanuts and tree nuts. Therefore, they must avoid all products with peanut of nut ingredients or nut oils. Ingestion of a piece of nut - containing food as tiny as a crumb, or contact with toys and equipment which have been touched or mouthed by others who have nut residue of their hands could trigger an anaphylactic, life threatening allergic reaction.
Glenview Methodist Preschool has created a peanut/nut restricted policy. The Preschool and the families of the children with these allergies acknowledge that despite our best efforts, we cannot guarantee an absolutely allergen-free environment. The goal of this policy is to create an atmosphere that will reduce the risks to children with life threatening peanut/nut allergies.
Glenview Methodist Preschool will not be serving any food items that contain peanut or tree nut ingredients or food items that are made on equipment that produces these products. We ask that parents bring only peanut/nut free store packaged products when bringing in a birthday treat, or any time food is brought into the center. This is especially important during Extended Day and Monday Madness. It is crucial that you read the food label to make sure that the items do not contain peanut or nut ingredients are are not make on equipment which produces these products.
If your child cannot eat certain food, please apprise the director and your classroom teacher of this situation as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of the parent to notify the center if their children have food allergies. Parents will be provided with a "Food Allergy Action Plan" to be completed by the parent and the child's physician. This must be completed and returned to Glenview Methodist Preschool as soon as possible and will be kept in the child's classroom with an attached photograph of the child. This will provide easy, immediate access to the teachers should action be required.
Please take the time to carefully read the attached information. It will answer many questions regarding the severity of these allergies. We want to thank you for your cooperation in helping to make Glenview Methodist Preschool a safe environment for all children.
Additional guideline regarding the above policy: If you or your child or any siblings coming to drop off or pick up a student has eaten food containing peanuts/tree nuts for breakfast or lunch, please wash face and hands thoroughly before attending school.
